About US

AIGY Beginnings

Hello there! We would like to introduce ourselves to you as the owners of Aiken Gymnastics, Inc. We are Draha and Radek Kriz. We are originally from Czechoslovakia, and have coached gymnastics at several competitive levels in the United States as well as Czechoslovakia.

Draha was on the Czechoslovakian National Team that competed in the Olympic Games held in Montreal in 1976, where they placed fifth in the world. Radek was a coach for the Czechoslovakian National Team.

Early in their coaching careers, Draha and Radek produced several national champions for Czechoslovakia. The most well-known of these gymnasts is Hana Ricna, who was a silver medalist on the balance beam in the World Championships held in Budapest, Hungary in 1983. She was also a bronze medalist on bars in the Montreal World Championships of 1985.

Draha and Radek started Aiken Gymnastics in 1993. Throughout the years they have coached individual and team US National Champions in Level 8, 9 and 10. Together they have coached numerous Level 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 Individual and Team State Champions in South Carolina.

Grace Taylor is arguably one of the most successful gymnasts to come from Aiken Gymnastics. She began training with Draha and Radek at the age of four and became the first gymnast from South Carolina to reach the prestigious Elite Level. Grace also represented the United States in a competition against Japan. She won the Friendship Cup in 2006 (an international competition) and later received a full gymnastics scholarship to the University of Georgia. As a sophomore, Grace helped lead the UGA Gymdogs to the 2008 NCAA National Championship title. Grace was also awarded the Individual NCAA National Championship on balance beam.

Draha and Radek are members in good standing of USA gymnastics and are Safety Certified by the USAG, and their staff are dedicated to excellence in the sport of gymnastics and a healthy and friendly atmosphere.

Recreational Program Letter Covid -19

Dear AIGY Recreational Families,

We would like to update everyone regarding new policies that will be implemented as we open on May 18th. Upon being allowed to reopen we have chosen to take a very conservative approach and structure our plans based on safety and health for our athletes and staff. We will continue to follow public health recommendations and hope our AIGY families do the same.

We are implementing the recreational classes into the second phase of the plan. We are starting with our competitive level athletes because we feel having them to try the new systems first will be easier. We hope that after two weeks, we can open up the modified recreational programs.

During this second phase the classes will be smaller and we will not have make up times. We will close classes once they are full. Extra time will be scheduled in between classes to allow one class to clear out before the next group arrives. Not more than one person can accompany each athlete into the building.

We will begin phase II on June 1st. This will include our recreational classes but not pre school or parent and tot classes. We will call you to give you your child’s class time options. We are going to do our best to give you a day and time that fits your schedule, but we will have limited slots in each class. We have changed some days and times in our original summer schedule to give us time for cleaning in between classes. We also want to make sure everyone knows that if any family feels uncomfortable returning, it is totally acceptable. Please just let us know

If you do not receive a phone call, but you would like your child to begin classes in June, please give us a call. We will go over the time we have available for your child’s age.

This return plan is very reliant on all our families respecting the new policies. We all want to go back to some normalcy, but for now please know we are trying to provide the best practices possible. This will be new for all of us so patience with our staff is greatly appreciated as well. They are amazing and doing everything they can to make this work.
